My sister's age.
I watched a video of a young child from Yemen being asked a few questions by a reporter.
The reporter asked the young girl her name, she replied by saying ‘I don’t know.’
The reporter asked where is your father, she replied saying ‘he died.’
The last question the reporter asked was if the young girl has had any breakfast, lunch or supper. No verbal response, only a defeated expression on her face, her hands covering her innocent eyes and the devastation of her hope fading with every day.
The country is being torn by violence and the lives of millions are being destroyed. Death, injury, starvation and a maybe even genocide.
22.2 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the UN. A war between two sides of power that have taken no consideration of the people their battles are hurting the most.
I won’t be speaking about the two sides, whose fault it may be and who is to blame. I don’t have that type of information and right now it is not my concern.
What I am concerned about are the future of Yemen and its people. I don't have the power to do much, to influence world leaders or make a significant change, just yet at least.
I can only do what is in my power, to use my available platforms, network and voice to spread awareness and raise some hope.
If I am able to get one person to read this article and become aware of the crises, one person to donate even just $1 to the cause and one person to also voice their concerns. Then for me, it is enough right now.
